Hi everyone,
I bought a 24 foot Searay weekender back in May. It is 1978 and after spending most of the summer getting it up and going I have a mystery problem. The boat I bought sat for 7-8 years in warehouse. The noise or thunk that is happening makes the whole motor jump. It happens when I am under power above 2000rpm. The rpms don't change and it does't come out of gear. It shifts find in and out of gear. I am wondering if my select a trim is slipping or could it be the ball gears are worn. It doesn't do it all the time. My trim broke they day I put it in the water for the summer but I checked the drive it was all the way down. Thanks for the help in advance.

Sounds like rotten motor mounts If the motor is "Jumping"

Is the sound consistent and mechanical? In other words, you can time the "thunks?" If they're not consistent, I'd want to know if the drive was bumping up and down when you hit waves.

Otherwise, my first guess would be ball gear and second would be the splines in the shaft going to the lower unit out of the upper gear case.
