i have a 1997 mercury 175 efi that ran hot upon tear down i found some hairline cracks in the fins on the exhaust ports. my question is would anyone rebuild this block or just try and find another. when motor was tore down there was evidence of water in #3 cylinder the rest looked great which led me to think this may have just been a head gasket issue. also i have found another block that has been ported and polished and it appears to have had the fins between cylinders machined out like it may have had same problem. does anyone think i could machine the cracks out of my block and build this block? or should i try and find another block?
