Hello,

I have a 1982 Johnson 35hp. I do not have spark on the top cylinder. I have switched the leads on the coils coming out of the CD2 box. When I do that I do get spark on the top spark plug. Therefore the coils are testing out good. I replaced the CD2 box and the problem stays. I ran the boat in the water on the one cylinder for about 5 minutes after about five minutes the second cylinder picks up it will hickup once or twice then take off running. On two cylinders it will run 28mph on one it will do 6mph. I can turn the motor off for a while when on lake then start it and it will fire on both cylinders. Once motor cools off completely it will only fire on the one cylinder. So I know the coils are working and that the cd2 box is new. I am taking the flywheel off next how do I test things in there? Where should I Go from here?? Any help would be great.

Thank You

Go to CDI Electronics.com. They have good test procedures.

Sorry, I misread your post at first.
So I deleted my original advice.

edit: Second thought. Make sure the ground wires on the power pack and both coils are well grounded to the engine block. Do you have a ohm meter?

Yes I have an OHM meter. I did go to cdielectronics.com I had to take a break from working on it to get more connectors. I found a few frayed wires so I am in the process of replacing them. The ohms from stator did test according to the above website. My next test is to testing the "switch" under the flywheel. I am thinking this is the problem.
