Has anyone actually put a voltage regulator on an older, unregulated Johnson outboard to stop overcharging? I'm aware of the maintenence free battery issues, turning on pumps or lights to lower voltage but I would like to do it with a regulator if possible. Must be air cooled, I'm looking for someone who has done it sucessfully, part numbers and wiring diagram if possible. This is a 6 amp stator so I'm thinking a 10 amp regulator such as CDI part # 193-4476. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS Jeff

Yes I have a rectifier, looking to add a voltage regulator as the rectifier does not regulate the voltage only converts it from AC to DC. Jeff

OMC used to have one, Part 173640 but don't know if it's still available or not.

They still have it, but it's $188 for about a 50 buck part....
