I am thinking of replacing my water pump myself and wanted to get advice from the panel to see if this is a job that I could handle or should I let a dealer/service center. I am some what mechanical but wanted advice. I have recently purchased a boat and wanted to try to do most of the service maintenance myself. I noticed after the first time out an abundance of oil leak from the weep hole Above the prop on the lower unit. It started out kinda chocolate color but turned black later on so I'm going to change the lwr unit oil as I don't think it's been changed in a couple of years from the previous owner. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. The boat had not been out for a year but I did run water through it at my house before cranking it. The place we boated was idle speed all day so I'm thinking that the oil may have been from not running it at higher rpm and not burning off the oil out of the mixture.

Welcome aboard! Your manual is your best friend in this situation but there are a number of clips on youtube that show you how to do this step by step. Don't forget the lower unit bolt under the trim tab if you have one. It is good practice to change impeller and LU oil upon getting a used engine so you are off to a good start. Happy boating!
