Mercury slow mode

I am wondering if there is a slow mode in a 1990 Mercury 100HP outboard. I have a temp sensor that tripped and I am wondering if that could be part of my problem getting the motor to run past 3000rpm. She runs great up to that point and then she stops. I even dropped down to a 17p prop from my normal 19p and still nothing past 3000rpm. I just replaced the stator and still nothing has changed. I have tried to search Google but there seems to be a hit or miss on information about this S L O W mode and my book speaks nothing of it. Thank you for any help you can give.

Your engine does not have a slow or guardian mode. Is it getting hot and tripping alarm? Was the stator new or used? Sound like your switchbox is not switching over to the high speed windings which can be a switchbox or stator.

Re: Mercury slow mode

The stator was new. I didn't get a new switch box. So the low speed / high speed switch is at 3000rpm?
