She won't idle runs fine on warm up but when I go to bring it back down to idle if skips then dies. I have tried to adjust throttle cable but it does the same thing. I can adjust the distruter out and get it to run some with lever in neutral but tach same I'm at 3000. Any help would be great. Model# 757h9e serial# 6566

First check the compression ratio to be certain you are not carrying a dead cylinder. Then check spark to again be sure that one cylinder is not dead.

Checked spark again has great spark. Barrowed timing light from friend checked timing it was off set it to TDC. Adjusted tack down to 1200. Adjusted throttle linkage got rpms down to 825 at idle. So my next question is what should my idle be at? Thanks for the help

Reliable idle speed is 700-750 RPM in forward gear, in the water. Depending upon the prop pitch, this will usually be somwhere around 1000 rpm in neutral. HOWEVERsetting it in neutral will not guarantee correct RPM under load. The only correct way to set idle speed is warm engine, in the water, in gear.
