I swaped out a 73 merc 200 20hp with a 81 merc 50 hp. first the controlls are reverse... reverse on the merc controll is foreward foreward is reverse can this be easly corrected????? also the teltale streamk takes a long time to spray water from when the engine is started.. also engine exaust also comes out of that water stream port is this normal???..

make sure your not using the throttle cable on the shifter bracket the shifter cable moves before the throttle cable does and adjust it accordingly. On some models the water come out in both places the tell tale and the back of the midsection as mindoes. It takes a few seconds for the water ports to fill up before the water starts to show out the tell tale. The water coming out of the Midsection exhaust should be cool and the water coming out of the tell tale should be hot but not more than you can handle with your hand under it consistantly. Hope this helps
