prime start wax pellet

Well, I'm watching "How it's Made" and they were making automotive thermostats and I learned they are operated by an expanding wax pellet that opens a needle valve, just like the Yamaha Prime Start System!....So I learned something! Wonder if the thermostat on my outboard is also a wax pellet type item?:confused:

Well, I might do it...and all this time I've been thinkin' what a great , unique idea Yamaha had with that Wax Pellet!:p

And all this time I thought it worked like a solenoid even though I never could figure how just having AC current off the stator could activate it. Makes sense, its a heating element rather than an electromagnet.
