I nstalled a 150/105 on my boat yeasterday. Took it out in the water and can can tell Ive got a little work to do here. Where should the pickup be height wise in relation to the bottom of the boat. Ive got it on a jackplate right now . Is that going to work or do I need to set it next to the transom? Also I see a lot of outboard jets with diverter plates that look like trim tabs . I can see why they are there now. Waters is shooting up over the motor.

Anyone set up a jet?

Re: Outboard Jet questions

I have a 115/80 jet on a Awled 1856 JC.

I do not use the diverter plate but i know a couple guys who do.. im sure with the set back from the jack plate you would benefit from one.

Here is a couple of sites you may find useful..

As for height.. set the lead edge of the foot in line with the bottom of your rig..

Re: Outboard Jet questions

The addition of a jackplate or anything that extends the motor mounting rearward will allow a slightly elevated mounting as the stream of water from under the hull rises the pickup/foot may be too low and causes excessive 'splash and drag, reducing maximum boat speed.

You can raise the running height of the motor but only so much that the leading edge of the pickup/foot remains in the water enough that it cannot suck any air.

A side view of the transom and motor setup would be help. outboard jet set ups are a matter of 1/4 to1/2 inch up and down to run clean, and get good results.
