Okay, my first post....here it goes...
I bought a 1992 SeaOx with a 1987 Evinrude 2009 XP V6, figured it would be a good project boat. The previous owner let it sit for a few years but insisted it ran fine prior to sitting. Everything was going okay until I ran into a spark issue. I was not getting spark at all at first and had a local boat mechanic "ohm out" the stator, which turned out to be bad. Replaced the stator with a new one and only got spark on one side of the motor...(the right side if looking from the rear of boat.) Started digging under the two power packs and found a broken wire (ground) under the left power pack. I decided to replace the whole power pack instead of fixing the wire because it was so close to the pack, I didn't think i could get a good splice on it. Once the new power pack was on, I still had spark on just the right side. With the boat started and idling, a timer light shows fire in all three right side plugs but none on the left. Went to the local boat mechanic again and he switched some wires, I think plugging the right side power pack into the left side, resulting in spark in all three left plugs only. I traced the kill switch (black with yellow) wires and could find no shorts, no grounds or damaged areas of wire. I don't mind dumping money into the project, just don't want to dump it into the wrong part. I'm thinking one of three things: something is wrong with the kill switch circuit, replace tight side power pack, or maybe the timer base. Any advice anyone could give will be very much appreciated. I think i have reached the limit on my electronic knowledge. Thank you.
