I just picked up a 79 Chrysler 75 hp 3 cylinder.I Was told it ran good but when I pulled the cover off today the 3 plug wires where just hanging out on the bottom. I hooked them up the way I thought they go but all it does is backfire. It won't start or any thing but backfire. Any help would be great thank you

The plug wires are 1/2/3 In a row from top to bottom.
Backfiring,do a compression test.
Then you need to figure out if the keyway has slipped??
Top cylinder,remove the plug.
Insert screwdriver in hole.
Turn by hand make the screwdriver comeout as far as it will go.
When it's all the way out,The flywheel hash mark should line up with the timing mark above the top carb??
You wheel might have 3 marks. They aren't the TDC hash mark.
The single mark is what your looking for.
You can try posting pics of your flywheel if you can't figure out what you have??

If the hash mark is off by more than a little bit, then the key has sheared.

'79 should be electronic ignition, however, sometimes people get the years wrong.

If the engine has a distributor, in the cap, the wire nearest the block is #1, the wire furthest forward is #2 and the wire closes to the outside of the engine is #3. Firing order is 1, 2, 3, with top cylinder #1

Thank you for your help. It does have a distributer. It should fire no problem now. Thank you once again.
