I have tried to research this question without a lot of success so here goes: I have a 2009 DF 100 on a 18foot flats boat that I bought new in 2010. I have a little less than 100 hours on the motor and have my first problem. When I turn the key after putting the boat in the water ( or connecting the hose with ears over the water pump pickup) I get all the normal lights in the bottom of the Faria tach and the hours indication on the tach needle. I get the beep and the all but the rev limit light go out and the tach needle comes back to zero. The rev limit light stays lit and there are no other adverse indications. No check engine blinking any codes and no other associated indications or performance issues that should be the case with the rev limit light. The motor will propel the boat down the river at any rpm until I am holding on to things to keep them from flying out of the boat. I have never had this motor to the rev limit rpm max that causes the 3000 rpm surge, as a matter of fact, I've never had it over 4600 rpm, because 35 knots in an open boat is about the limit of my idea of a good time.
I've consulted with one tech over the phone who says it can only be the tach, a wire harness, or the computer. Every one I talk to says run the boat and replace or plug in a new tach and or trouble shoot it when the fishing isn't so good. Something about that approach sticks in my mind as not preferable. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
