Hi everyone I recently had my merc outboard die on me while cruising on a local river. Wouldn't restart so I got it home put new plugs fuel line fuel connectors on it. Cleaned the carburetor and finally got it to start but it won't idle. Serial number is 5081928. Wondering if its an adjustment problem or if I need a Carb repair kit or what? Thank you

First things first. What size/year motor are you talking about? Any more details of how it quit? Not likely an adjustment issue if it was running well before it quit.

Perform a compression test. Perform a spark test. Is the waterpump operating?

Not sure on the year that's y I posted the serial number. I wasn't driving the boat when it happened. All I know is they were cruising around slow then it died after a day of that. Wouldn't restart. So I did the above but can't get it to idle down. Did not do a compression test

Re: mercurt thunderbolt idle

Could anyone help me with the year of this.motor? I want to get a Carb kit for it but unsure of the year. When priming I kept losing pressure after I cleaned the Carb out and think the seat.isn't sitting like it should anymore and just wanna replace everything in there. Fuel shot out of the Carb is why I'm thinking the needle isn't sitting in the seat
