Have a Stingray 180LX with a Mercruiser 3.0. After a long run pulling a tuber or skier the engine will idle at ~1000 RPMs and will diesel during shutdown. Engine idles at 650/700 normally and will idle at 650/700 on restart. When retrieving someone in the water, I will proceed slowly to give the engine time get back to normal, usually 30-60 seconds. Is this not enough time for the engine to return to "normal" or is there another issue I should be looking at?

Thanks.

Re: Dieseling / Run On

You need to get the linkage and carb adjusted so the idle is down to 650-700. At 1000, it will diesel every time, hard run or not.

Dieseling can also suck water back into the engine. You REALLY need to get it fixed.
