Mercury thunder bolt overheating

Hi iv recently fitted a new impeller too my merc 500 engine water was coming out as it should took it a run tonight 5/8/12 drove about 3 miles and it cut out then white smoke just a little tho anyone know what damage this causes is it fixable and a rough cost
