Ignition Module

I have a 1998 Evinrude, 9.9hp 4 stroke, high thrust. My mechanic tells me some parts are no longer available for that engine. I need an ignition module, part #0586136. Can anyone help me?

Well actually, it now appears the ignition module is OK. He is leaning toward the coil (which seem to be scarce to unavailable???????) or the stator. I tried that MARINEENGINE.COM site for the coil. They listed it as unavailable.

From what the mechanic is telling me, parts for this engine may be scarce, if available at all. I am considering getting it repaired if possible, then selling it to get something else. This time around I am leaning toward a 6hp. I would entertain suggestions as to what brands and models might be good. Bear in mind I probably won't be buying anything brand new.

Is your mechanic actually using some sort of troubleshooting guide or is he just going to throw parts at it?

Sierra lists a coil for a 9.9/15 four stroke, 1994-99. Their part number is 18-5176.

Some of the parts for that motor are scarce. Your mechanic seems to be guessing. He should be able to use a DVA to determine what is wrong in the ignition.

Yes, that dual coil is unavailable. A 583740 coil can be "rigged" to work using 512256/512478 connectors.

You do have a Model HE10FELECA ??

I had always thought that replacement electrical and fuel system parts were required to be avail for 20 years after manufacture. Obviously, if a motor is popular, manufacturers and aftermarket places will have those parts long after that deadline. i.e. coils and carb kits for fifties Evinrude Big Twins.

You have to remember that BRP now owns the old OMC. I've seen a lot of parts that are now NLA which in the old OMC days you rarely seen that. O' well.

Yep boobie, have a sx drive in the shop now with a smoked upper. Would be able to make a fast turn around and maybe a few extra bucks, be lucky to break even. Have to out source parts.

Yes I do, but we have a dealer within 30 miles of us, that I used to work at that gives us somewhat of a break on parts. It's just getting tougher dealing with the OMC brand. Oh well.
