A wise old mechanic told me the other day if you want to preserve your fuel and protect your engine mix in some transmission fluid. Has anyone heard of this? Could it be true?

Re: Free Fuel Stabilizer

Hmmm, there are some similar materials in ATF and Fuel Stabiliser.

This is the material safety data sheet ingredients for Motul Fuel Stabiliser and Valvoline ATF Dexron III>

Motul Fuel Stabiliser

NAME CAS RN %
isoparaffins petroleum hydrotreated HFP 64742-47-8. >90
2, 6- di- tert- butylphenol 128-39-2 <10
N, N- di- sec- butyl- p- phenylenediamine 101-96-2 <1

Valvoline ATF Dexron III

paraffinic distillate, heavy, solvent- dewaxed (severe) 64742-65-0. 70-95
nonhazardous ingredients balance

The ATF doesn't have the aromatic secondary ingredients of the stabiliser. Would it work... don't know, that's one for a chemist.

What ever all that stuff is, it doesn't belong in your gas. I mean the ATF ingredients. At least stabilizers are designed to mix/blend with gas, ATF isn't. IMO.

Just to add to the conversation.... even if it works, how is it "Free Fuel Stabilizer?" Where do you get free transmission fluid?
