Hi Dudes!
New to this boating malarkey, and very nervous...
Right, I have just purchased a late 80's early 90's speed boat manufactured by Broom. It came with a Yamaha 40DE outboard. Both are looking very sorry for themselves, and in need of more than a lot of TLC...
I have lots of questions, like how do I date the boat, repair the hull, can I repair the cracked casing around the propeller shaft, can I replace the seats with car seats, can I spray the marine paint on or does it have to be brushed on, Is there a legality to naming the boat i.e registering etc..
The list goes on and on and on...
The outboard is need of a service, and parts...
This is all the result of an alcohol fueled adventure theory... that happened in a matter of 24hrs... now I am the proud owner of a boat that floats but unless you row... well it looks like it floats anyway...
The motor was last run a year ago, for a short time, but has sat under a tree since! It has a fibreglass hull, and an almost non see through screen from perspex.
I NEED YOUR HELP GUYS!
PLEEEEAAASE!

Much appreciated :)

how do I date the boat

Look at the upper right[starboard] side of the stern. There may be a HIN [hull id number]. You can research the HIN here

repair the hull

Start by reading the restoration forum

can I repair the cracked casing around the propeller shaft

Repairing an aluminum housing is doable if you know a good aluminum welder.

can I replace the seats with car seats

Anything is possible. Necessity is the mother of invention.

can I spray the marine paint on or does it have to be brushed on

Are you talking about painting the hull or metal parts like an outboard?

Is there a legality to naming the boat i.e registering etc

Being you're in England you would have to check with your countries registration requirements.

First WELCOME!

You will get far better response by asking one question at a time. What you wrote said basically "Tell me everything you know about the entire world."

Thank you very much for your help. I've since dated the engine as 1981... I've also sourced the service parts! Bonus!

I see what you're saying! And, that's basically what I meant! :) Any help at this stage would be better than no help! Thanks for your input!

Can you help with any of the mentioned questions?
Cheers! ;)
