Neutral safety switch should be a yellow wire with a red trace line that is in-line from the ignition to the starter relay. The switch breaks this connection when not in Neutral to prevent the starter from turning and starting the motor in gear. Simply crossing this wire or shorting them together will only affect the starter operation and have NO effect on the motors running quality.

Changing the control assy and or cables is another thing. Any error in the cables or adjustment can directly effect idle speed and WOT.

First, does the motor shift properly?

Have you checked that the throttle cable is adjusted correctly at idle? Just a slight amount of cable pressure to hold the linkage at idle. And that WOT is actually WOT at the motor.

What alarm are you getting, a solid tone, rapidly beeping?

Have you checked the fuel filter for any water accumulation?

Engine mounted oil tank full to overflowing.

Next is verify 7/16 inch spark on ALL cyls as the oil alarm module compares spark of one cyl to the rotation sensor of the oil pump and signals an alarm if either is different.

If it is a rapidly beeping oil alarm, add oil to the fuel tank to get a 50:1 mixture so as to protect the motor just in case there is an oiling problem. If it turns out to be an electrical problem the additional oil will at most only shorten the life of the spark plugs a little bit.
