What year is this, and what coil do I need?

Hi everyone,

This may be a silly question, so sorry in advance if it is.

Can anyone identify tell what year this motor is, and possibly what coil I need to order?

Its a Johnson 140hp V4, i think '78 or '79.

As far as I can find, a OMC ignition coil 18-5176 should be a replacement, but it looks fairly different from the coils on the motor.

Try '77. From the decals on the hood, it looks like a '77 or '78 instead of a '79 :redface:

the 1978 coil is slightly different in shape to the 1979 model
1978 coil part no 0581819
1979 ' ' ' 0581998
you have a 1978 model one . either way they both fit & do the same job , cheers

Just found the model number. 140TL79R, so i'm taking odds on it being a 1979 model.

Thanks for the advice on the coil part numbers! Much appreciated
