'79 & later cables on a '75 70hp motor

I currently have a '80 70hp Johnson. I blew the motor and am just looking to replace it to get me back on the water. I'm looking at a '75 70hp to replace it. Will my current 1980 control cables work with this pre '79 motor. I have heard rumor that the cables themselves are the same on the engine side of things. Can I use my current remote control and cables and just swap the motor in?

yes it will fit i start my 1980 70 with my 1974 harness

So the control cables are the same,ie shift and throttle cable? I'm not talking just the wiring, I'm talking the cables as well

Anyone? Will my shift and throttle cables that I used on my '80 70hp johnson work with the '75 70hp Johnson that I'm looking at? I want to keep the same cables and remote control.
