1963 10 hp Evinrude impeller - lower housing - shifter roc

Hi I've removed the 4 - 7/16 bolts that hold the gear case to the mid section. I read that someone who did this procedure also removed the shift connector window and the lower screw. Would someone please tell me if that's esssential to removing the lower housing? and if so, how to do it?

Yes, and remove lower shift rod bolt,

I figured out how to find and remove the lower shift rod bolt and was careful not to deform seals. the parts store sold me a 775518 but the hole diameter is smaller than my original part, which is actually a 775519. Between this forum and a parts manual and a little bit of know how I think one could just about do anything. Now if I could just figure out how to upload the pics I took I'd be satisfied.
