Cleaning the carbs on a two cycle outboard means removing the carbs and disassembling them, completely cleaning inside and out, then reassembling. Usually, it is best to rebuild the carbs while you are at it, kits aren't too expensive.

On that motor it is not a very difficult task, just pay attention to how things came apart and be sure to put them back that way. Most folks with a reasonable amount of mechanical aptitude should be able to pull off a carb rebuild.

Before you work on the carbs, do a compression and spark test. Spark should jump a 7/16 " open air gap on a tester.

Since you're not familliar with the job, I suggest doing 1 at a time, that way if you cant remember how somthing goes back together you will have the other for reference.

It may not hurt to also get a service manual either.
