1994, Wellcraft - 5.7 Mercruiser: cruising for about 30-40 minutes at min wake to full throttle, at full throttle motor started popping and losing power, brought throttle to idle ran fine, went back up to 2RPM, again lost all power and died. After choking started up idled for short while again lost power and then had to be towed. Just had the alternator replaced and boat compression was given two thumbs up. I am thinking it's the fuel pump/system or carb? Any suggestions? My wife is losing faith in this boat - I have got to get it right!

Haven't checked out the plugs. Do you think it could be fuel system related because it did run fine for a while?

Re: Losing power atter 30 minutes

I ran into a weird situation once where the inner fuel liner of a cheaper brand hose had collapsed and caused a MAJOR fuel starvation prob. This is just more advise. It's hard to diagnose probelms for me without looking at it directly at it.
