Hi everyone I am new here and am buying my first boat tomorrow! I am very nervous! I just wanted a cheap bow rider and am getting a 1978 Bonito with Mercury 120. Only thing I have to get is a battery. The guy said any 4 cyclinder car battery would work... Is this true? Anyways I've looked up this year/model of boat and have found NOTHING! I realize it is old I just hope I'm not making a huge mistake! I would love and welcome any tips for a new boater ;) THANKS!

Hi Lauren, welcome aboard:

I would suggest that you look into a deep cycle Marine battery. Marine batteries will handle the usage load required by a boat better than a car battery will. A car battery will work, but will likely go bad faster.

Have you been able to run the boat you're looking at out on the water? Have you checked to make sure the floor is solid and the transom is sound?

I wouldn't worry quite as much about the make as I would about the condition of the boat.
