87 Bayliner with 2.3L choke problem

Ordered reman 2BBL Rochester carb and opened the box to fine I didn't get an electric choke, but rather the vacuum choke. Can I still use this on my engine and if so where do I run the vacuum line to. Anyone got a diagram? I want to get her running again and don't really care if't electric choke or vacuum.

The choke is not "vacuum" is is called a heat stove choke.. there should be pipes or fittings that come out of the choke, that attach to pipes that are installed in the manifold.. These pipes circulate warm air thru the choke housing and cause a heat sensitive spring to contract or expand, which in turn, moves a lever to open or close the choke blade...

If your carb was originally not fitted for this type of choke, it normally would require you to change out the manifold in order to use it.. Based on the design of the 2.3 intake.. I don't think they ever used this type of choke on an OMC application

If you have the original choke from the original carb, you may be able to use the choke again on the new carb.. again, my concern is whether or not, they installed heat stove chokes on marine applications, and if they did not, is the carb you purchased a marine carb or the proper carb for a 2.3L - I think it is not... the manifold design on a 2.3L should not allow for this type of choke

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to pull the hot-air choke off and order an electric to replace it. It's the only difference with the carb.

Can you show us where you ordered your carb from and the part number? I believe there was a previous issue with people being able to source an electric choke for the proper marine carb that goes on the 2.3L - If you have found one, I bet people would like to know
