just bought a used 25 hp... 1993...it sat for 5 years unstarted...when ilooked at it, i did a compression test and had 125 in each cylinder. I then put 2 new plugs in and motor started right up on first pull. i also shifted it in gear in the barrel...shifted no problem and prop engaged... am i to assume that the motor is not cooked at all? is that a safe assumption? i changed water pump too, but not getting water thru telltale... but i want to make sure i am ok with the cylinders...so would the fact that if fired right up rule out the head being cooked...no paint peeling signs either...
THANKS ALL

If the motor should be pumping water out of the tell tale, but isn't, don't run the motor or you risk an overheat. Once the motor is pumping water again, the rest sounds good to go.
