Hello everyone. I am new to the site and actaully fairly new to boating as well. My wife grew up with sailboats and I grew up with duck hunting rigs and aluminum fishing boats. My wife and I recently purchased a 1996 Larson Cabrio 280 with twin 4.3L Mercruiser Alpha 1 drives. I think this forum is going to very helpful, however I have a question that I couldn't find while searching so I hope I'm not pulling a noobie request here and thanks in advance.
Last evening while putting out on the lake, my wife got a little shallow and the outdrives hit ground. Fortunately we were only going about 3-5mph and quickly got back to the main channel. There is only a very small ding in one prop and the boat drove like normal. When we reached the slip is where my questions started. We tied up fine and I went to hit the "Trailer Up" switch so I could investigate any damage. Only the Starboard drive lifted. The port side drive did not move nor did the pump even turn on when using the "Trailer Up" switch. I then used the thumb switch for the trim and the port side lifted fine up until the limit was reached which was not nearly as high as when using the Trailer Up switch. In the heat of the moment with rain approaching and having just potentially damaged our boat, my mind locked up and now can't remember if the port drive was fully in nuetral because all of this testing was done with the engines off.
Do the outdrives need to be in nuetral in order for the "trailer up" switch to function?
I find it difficult to think by bumping a rock with the outdrives would cause an electrical issue??? The trim worked up and down fine on both sides.
Thank you kindly in advance and I hope to gain enough experience soon to be able to assist others in the future.
