hey folks,

My trim/tilt has been giving me problems, I changed the motor last year so i know its not the motor....It will always go down but some time when I try triming up it wont work, all i hear is the siloniod clicking.

After i run the boat and bang it around the lake for a while it will start working again.

I think its the siloniod. It looks old as ****

What are your thoughts??

mine was doing the same thing. next time the sileniod clicks go back there and just jumper accross the sileniod with a short stout wire. that should tell you if the sileniod is bad or not.

but either way, probably a good idea to replace them if they are old as ****

One of the terminals will always be hot with the key on.

with a multimeter find out which one gets hot when you tilt up, then jump to that one.

dont quote me on this as it has been a while. but on MY boat the tilt up sileniod is on the starboard side, and the side that i was jumping to was the inward terminal, or towards the port side. Good luck

so basically i will touch the jumper to the power (which will be the red cable) to one of the 2 terninals (one terminal should be trim up and 1 terninal should be trim down) the 4 terminal is ground (with a black cable coming out of it)

Do i have that correct.

Agree with RED ... those solenoids are also cheap as ________ .

Do a quick check that your trunions are greased and that your clutch pack isn't all gunked up.

No, you have a total of 3 siloniods towards the rear of your engine.

1 for cranking / starting
1 for tilt up
and 1 for tilt down

the tilt ones are located directly behind the engine under 2 large looms of wires, the cranking one *should* be more off to the starboard side, mines is anyways,Its the one that is connected to the starter.

I have a ford, so that is what I am reffering to. I dont know what you have, a Chevy may be quite different.

That makes scence cuz the solinoid right next to it for trim down looks brand new.

I will just replace that solinoid and call it a day

Thanks for all your help.
