OMC 115 HP Outboard Ssteaming Out Pee Hole - Overheating

I ahve a 1984 OMC Seadrive 1.6 L. When we start it up at idle it pees water just fine. However, once we rev it up it changes to steam within 15 seconds.

We have changed out the impeller and pump housing, but never ran it for long until recently. We purchased this boat after it sat outside for a number of years with the motor, but was properly winterized.

Maybe this is a thermostat issue? The entire shaft become very hot once it started to steam. We only ran it for about 10 seconds after the steam started coming out the pee hole.

Are you running this engine with the lower unit in the water or on muffs when it overheats? If on muffs you may not have enough water flow or high enough water pressure. I have an '85 1.6L OMC and found out years ago from Joe Reeves that it needs a lot of water while on the muffs, book said to use low water pressure but it caused overheating. I run my hose at full pressure with tight fitting muffs and it has worked fine.
If you have the lower in the water and it still steams start from the bottom up. Check the inlet ports on the lower unit for blockage, you intalled a new impeller, so check the thermostats and relief valves and springs.
