I just installed an inline spin on water seperating fuel filter between my gas tank and fuel pump on my 1991 3.0l mercruiser. My question is do I. Still need to keep the fuel filter element that goes in the housing on the bottom of my fuel pump.
With the size of the new 10 micron fuel filter it seems redundent having the little paper fuel filter still. The other big reason is the old paper under the fuel pump filter can be a pain to put on and take off.

Yes keep it, it won't hurt anything, but if you get too much junk in the spin on, then the pump filter and carb filter could still stop it.

You shouldn't need to change the pump and carb filters anymore, unless something goes wrong.
