Hi all, I am the proud owner of a 1995 Yamaha saltwater series 200txrt. I am having a problem that I cannot really seem to find an answer to, when running my motor it runs excellent up to around 3500 rpm once I go beyond that I start to hear a distinct rattling noise, when I first heard it I ran the motor up in rpm and the noise disappeared at 4600. I have not done that since the first time I heard the noise in fear of causing more damage. I have been told by a couple of people and they have suggested a wrist pin, but wouldnt it rattle all the time if that's the case? I'm kinda at a loss with this and any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have ran the motor several times and have not had any trouble, and runs strong and smooth I just keep it below 3500 with no trouble what so ever.

Re: rattle at certain rpm

try running the motor with the upper cowl off and check closely for maybe a loose or vibrating component. Let your friend run the boat while you do the looking. Sometimes items, cables, wires, components can vibrate at just a certain RPM....use tie-wraps to secure everything that's loose. Good Luck!
