Not every Alpha I Gen II took the same bearing. So without a drive serial number, you can't even get an accurate Merc PN for one.

I also can't imagine that bearing freezing up and there isn't something else wrong somewhere that you aren't aware of.

Then you most likely have other drive problems, too...(including metal in the lower gears). just sayin'

The drive oil that was left in it didnt appear to have any metal in it.. I pulled the the top cap and found this bearing. i removed the yoke shaft, seals, double bearings, and drive gear and driven gear.. all is well except this cap bearing..

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... Do ya have the manual to shim, 'n set the rollin' torques,..??
The lower should atleast be torn down, 'n Cleaned...

Any ground metal from the upper, falls into the lower....

Re: alpha one gen 2 top cap bearing

32575T1 is the MerCruiser number for the bearing
18-1179 is the sierra marine number ---- Napa can use that number to cross reference.

32563A1 is the shim kit for upper bearing
18-2282 is sierra

35980A1 is the shim kit for double bearing
18-2292 is sierra

I’m guessing you already have the o-rings and seal that you will need.
It would be pretty foolish to not replace them while it’s apart.
