ok you johnson guys, is there any way to get more power out of a 1967 9.5. I have a 16ft aluminum boat and a very nice motor but could use a little more speed.

If the engine is running properly and is propped for max RPM, that's all your gonna get.
Might be time to look for a larger engine.:D

It would cost you more to "hop up" a 9.5 than it would to sell it and step up to a 15.

I have been looking for a 15 to 25 longshaft, but don"t have the money, they all want 800.00 to 1500.00, more than I can afford, will have to make do, will get me out to the fishing spots, just takes a little longer. boat is rated for up to 40hp.

Be very happy about that! Think about how many would love to have any kind of fishing rig but can't for some reason ;)

If it's rated for 40 hp it should have a min of 30 hp for any performance at all.
