timing for a 1983 bayliner ciera

first time boat owner trying to be a boat mechanic!!! PLEASE help... lol

i have a 1983 ciera with a 280 Volvo penta and a 350 gm motor. i have been trying to set the timing but have NO clue to what degree to set it.
i don't see a vacuum advance and or is it built in???

There is no vacuum advance. Ther is mechanical advance in the distributor controlled by swing-out weights and springs.

i have the same set up on a 1985 ciera. I just did the timing it is 8 degrees at idle (600 to 650 rpm) and 32 degrees at 4200 rpm. I would take off the distibutor cap and check the advance weights and springs. mine were all rusted up and would not swing out to advance the timing. A little clean up and lube and they work great again.
