OMC 3.0 vs OMC "COBRA" 3.0

My motor is a 1985 OMC motor, I keep reading here and other places about the OMC Cobra is this motor one in the same? or are they different motors??.if so what is different about them? Are any parts interchangeable?

Same. Cobra is a type of drive which is the next generation after the stringer.

I'm pretty sure I have this right - 1985 is the last year for the OMC Stringers. 1986 would be the first year for the OMC Cobras. The drives are completely different. Dunno' how different the engines are (one vs. the other).

OMC Stringers are mounted to the boats stringers (superstructure) not the transom. The drive meets the engine through the transom and there is a big rubber "boot" at the hole the drive passes through.

OMC Cobras are transom mounted (more or less) and the drive and engine both bolt to the transom of the boat ... no big rubber boot needed.

Yours is an OMC 800 (If I remember your other thread right).

To the OP. You said motor so I was assuming you only meant the motor itself and not the drive differences.
