250 v8 Johnson wont shift

After taking boat out after two years of storage , the boat wont shift . It was working fine before , I did get to go into reverse once after shifting back and forth a few times , there is no grinding and oil is super clean . is there a shift switch that I can un hook to try ?? any suggestions ??

It is a 1997 Jhonson Ocean Runner 250 V8 with a 25 shaft some salt water use ,

Remove the the shift cable from the mtr, rotate the prop and try to shift it then. If it's hard to move you have corrosion built up around the shift rod in the lower unit.

I also should have said, try shifting it at the mtr.

I will try that in the AM and get back to you , it is hard to move the shifter and I do not think it is the shifter, how do I get at the shift cable or rod ??
