Hi Guys can anyone help me out here?

I have a 1988 2655 with 5.7 OMC had her for nearly 2 years now ticks all the boxes for my use however, she has always been a lazy starter from cold I have the original owners manual and follow the recommended procedure of pumping the throttle 3 times and leaving at 1/4 to 1/2 position but can take two to three attempts to start....

1) Is this normal for a engine of this age?

My main problem is when the engine is warm and you switch of for a few minutes it won't always start again for up to an hour!!! Had this on Sunday Started ok in fact better than normal engine temperature was just over 100, my son misheard my instruction and turned her off....... Then she wouldn't start.... We checked HT leads from distributer to plugs and coil, cleaned the points and checked for a spark on one of the plugs we found NO spark......

2) What could cause this intermittent problem?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

When was the last time you changed the points and set them with a dwell meter? Is the timing set correctly? Basically, when was the last time a full tune up was done including changing spark plugs, cap and rotor?
