Just bought this Montg. Wards Sea King boat. What year is it, and was it a good deal?

Hello,

This is my first time buying a boat, it came with two oars, and five life jackets. I purchased it off my neighbor for $200. I'm not sure about the date it was made, or what the model/serial number means. I would like to know when it was built/made, and whether I got a good deal on it or not. (The boat does not leak). Here is the model number (from what I could make out) is: 29120. The serial number (from what I could make out) is: S272F1361. I have enclosed some pictures, and hope it helps. Thanks again for your help!

As a general rule the last 2 numbers of the serial number (before the .) indicate the year, but I am not sure when that was adopted.

For my part of the country that would be a good price for a non-registered boat and an excellent price for one with papers which are required here for anything you want to use with a motor. The little tinnys have held up better price wise than the bigger boats here.

That boat was a good deal if it was worth it to you (which it obviously was), a boat is only worth as much a someone is willing to pay for it.

Welcome to iboats.

It is a pre-1974 12' boat and the serial number means nothing unless you can get into the Montgomery Wards Purchase records. You will need it to register.

Good little boat made by ?????????? whoever wards was buying from at that time. Good boat I hope you have a valid bill of sale and you should be able to register it.

Nice little boat. This is almost identical to my first boat. I had a '69 johnson 4 hp, to push it. It was a good little boat tho, and i miss it sometimes.

Thanks for the help, guys. Just to let you know, I live in Maine, and the only time I would need to register it would be if I put a motor on it. I plan on taking my kids out on a small lake down the road from my house. It is a perfect size and fit. Thanks again!

I would have jumped on it for $200 without the paperwork as indicated above. With paperwork it is easily worth double that here.
