Hey everyone,
So I bought a 73 650 merc this spring. I put it on my 20 foot pontoon and off I went. I was told by the guy that he put a rebuilt lower unit on it. After fixing multiple other problems i am still trying to figure out what is going on with my reverse. It will engage and hold a little power but when trying to power in a tight position it pops out of gear and grinds. I have tryed adjusting the shifter cables with no results. Is in fact the lower unit going out on this motor? Is it a hard winter project to rebuilt it?
I dont want to steer away from this motor because i dont have much money to get another... I am also spoiled now that i have a decently powered motor. What are you guys thoughts? Thanks
