I purchased a 1996 Evinrude 30hp with a broken starter bracket stud. The previous owner tried to helicoil it but didn't work because of all the torque produced from the starter. I'm going to have a guy fill in the hole with aluminum weld, but I'm faced with two options. One, I could fill it completely and re-drill and tap the hole to thread a new stud. Don't know how well this will hold. Two, I could find an aluminum stud to weld in. Do they make these, and where could I find one?

Do the first option. It will be stronger than an aluminum stud welded in.
