I have a 1989 Merc 40 ser# OC202880. I have a small leak coming from around the wire that enters the engine by the top plug. In the pic you can see the green connector. What is this wire and does anyone know what I need to do to repair this? Thanks guys.....leak40.jpg

Re: Small water leak

That should be for the temperature switch for the warning horn. Is it a tan wire?

See here, item 1:

I have never had to repair one but most of the repairs I have seen are JB welded. If it were mine, I would remove the cover and using dye penetrant, see if there is a crack and how far it extends before attempting a repair.

Thanks Gerry, yes it is a tan wire. I notice on the link you posted the part is $182.00 Is that crazy?? No wonder they JB welded them! I'll have to do a little more research but thanks..
