1992 40Hp merc wont start

I have a 1992 40Hp merc oil injection elec start. It was running fine we stopped and it would not start again got out the pull cord and it started. Thought it was the key switch and replaced it. Still will not start with the key but will start with the pull cord. When you turn the key the starter spins it like crazy but it will not start.

Have you checked the Bendix gear operation?? If not, check & be sure it's lubricated properly and that it's free to engage the flywheel ring gear.:cool:
