Hooking up power to trolling motor (motorguide)

have a 12/24 45 lb TM. I only want to hook up 12 volts (save room)
that being said i have a Black - Red - White wires coming from TM
would black and red get me my 12 and the white be reserved for hook up to 24 if desired?
Any help is good help
