My motor will only run at start speed and above with the choke partially closed. I have tried a different fuel pump, disassembled the carburater and cleaned all the passages. I also replaced the packing on the low idle screw.

Does your carb have a welch plug on it and did you clean the idle circuit holes under that plug and then blow them out with compressed air? Sounds like your idle circuit is still blocked up.

Hello Master Chief

I did remove the welch plug and blew out the passages.

Thank you for your reply, ABHCS/Retired Rudi Stock

Have you set the idle adjustment on your carburetor properly. I agree with Will. If you slow speed needle isn't blocking the gas, something else in the carb probably is.

Carb. Adjustment procedure if you do not already have it or have done it.

I had the exact same problem on my 69 6hp. Turned out to be a combination of things. Bad coils (Only had spark in one cylinder) and a proper boss gasket on the carb. It started fine, but would only run with throttle. I changed the coils, condensers and wires, new plugs and rebuilt the carb with a carb kit purchased from my local marine. Now it runs like its brand new! Wouldnt hurt to check for spark, and quality of spark...
