replacing 1973 Johnson 6 hp water pump with new version 0763758

Hi, I have a Johnson 6. I'm replacing the entire water pump with the new version 0763758. Do I toss out the old lower aluminum impeller plate or mount the new stainless plate directly over it? I wish OMC included a paper with instructions. Thanks!

The aluminum plate holds the seal, it needs to be there. Mount the stainless plate on top of it.
