1984 johnson 35 and 40 hp, are they dependable, or should they be avoided?

saw on craiglist a 35, 40 and 50 hp johnson motors and was wondering about pros on cons on these engines? are they reliable or should they be avoided. any comments are appreciated, thanks, ron

All three are reliable the OMCs from the early 80s and late 70s were all good engines
