140hp 3 L omc sterndrive. help removing shift cable

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help, The stern drive is now off, but i cannot get the shift cable to push through at all. Any idea what im doing wrong ? Ive also split he rubber trying, will it be difficult and expensive to replace when i do manage to remove it ?

if its a stringer,could be up to 500 for a new cable...if u can even find one.

thanks for reply.OH NO :( I only paid 500? for the boat. Any idea how to get it out?? All i know is the boat is a dateline bikini 140hp, 3L, with a omc stern drive, model no. 983486. I was told a 1984 but when ive been searching for info think it could be either a 81 or 85, but tbh i havnt a clue.

there is a clip on the outside held on with a bolt.

after that, you can soak the snot out of both sides with penetrating oil (wash it off completely afterwards though - some types eat the rubber)
then, 2 people - 1 pushing inside and 1 pulling outside can usually get it to slide.

take the battery right out of the boat.

Hello, thanks for taking the time to reply, ive removed the clip, and (almost) sure everything else, the thing wont budge at all ? ill give the penetrating oil a try cheers.
