Yachtwin head clearence?

Have a 70's vintage 2 cylinder yachtwin, pistons seem to hit top of head (even with new head/gasket) - is there something I'm missing? Can rotate back and forth but when either piston gets near to top it seems to hit and won't turn any further.

That's the first thing I thought of, too. The plug holes should face the port side of the motor (when looking forward). This pic is from the smalloutboards site...

Duh! That was it - thanks! Reminds me of the Monty Python skit - "you mean spell bollor with a k? Kolor - what a silly bunt..."

One more question - the engine pulls over hard, seems to be the pull cord/gear assembly since the head spins easily. Kind of a funky setup for the pull start. Anything I should look for?
